Welcome to New Members
Hello everyone! My sincerest apologies for the delay in sending out this/last month's newsletter. There have been a lot of interesting developments for health systems strengthening including a recent publication featuring HSAN and the beginning stages of development for a global health and development tool.

I would like to warmly welcome the new members to the HSAN student section. Thank you for your interest and I hope HSAN can be useful in your global health pursuits.

Education for Health Article
In Issue 1 of Vol 23, I wrote a perspective piece discussing the popularity of global health and suggesting some future directions for global health education with respect to health systems. The article can be found here: http://www.educationforhealth.net/articles/subviewnew.asp?ArticleID=297.

I welcome your feedback and hope some of you will join me in trying to take action on improving health system learning opportunities at your home institutions.

Social Networking Tool for Global Health and Development
After working for a year in San Francisco to create a social networking platform for the local public health system, I am pushing to create a similar platform for global health. The tool is very early in development, but I have a stellar team of partners that are great "tech" people with lots of industry experience in all things web 2.0.

In the next few weeks, I will be sending out a survey to get your input on the utility of such a tool. I am hopeful that our (mostly) young group of health systems enthusiasts will be able to guide the direction that this tool takes. The survey will be entirely voluntary and anonymous, so please don't discard the email when it arrives in two weeks. Your input may help structure the tool that transforms the way global health collaboration happens!

Future Directions for HSAN Student Section
With clinics resuming in the next month or so, I will have less time to dedicate to administrative functions in HSAN. Having said that, if any of you are interested in having a leadership role in HSAN and helping me take it to the next phase of functionality, please let me know.

In particular, I need someone to help complete and submit a grant proposal so we can get funding for student research and implementation projects in health systems strengthening. I can be reached at students@hsanet.org.

Keep an eye out for the social networking survey in the next couple of weeks and congratulations to all of you graduating in the coming months!

Best,

Andrey
